If someone asks you what the current state of your business's IT is, how would you respond? Would you be speaking firsthand? Or taking the word of someone you pay to do the job? As our reliance on information technology continues to grow, so does the importance of understanding your business's IT health. But what does this mean and how do you do it?
Many business and IT professionals don't measure IT success because they don't know HOW to measure IT success.
Would you allow your CFO to respond with "I 'think' we're doing well with our financials"? Or your VP of Sales to say "I 'feel' like our team is meeting goal this year"? So why would you settle for uncertainty or a feeling when it comes to your IT?
IT has the unique ability to hide in obscurity based on the perceived complexity of technology. It is typically a daunting task for the non-IT professional to be involved with IT.
Most business managers are comfortable taking someone's word regarding their IT health or satisfied that nothing bad has happened… yet.
So how do you measure IT success?
Here are a few questions your IT resource should not only be able to speak to, but also provide reporting on a REAL-TIME basis to validate that what needs to get done is getting done. If it takes more than an hour to generate the reporting, then you need to ask yourself some questions about what is slipping through the cracks.
1. Antivirus deployment
2. Patch deployment
3. Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)
4. Web Defense
5. Life Cycle Management (assets, warranty info, etc.)
These are just a few of the areas that should be measured. Don't let IT hide in the dark. DivergeIT provides access to our proprietary dashboard for SMBs with robust insight into your IT environment, in real-time, included with all our managed IT service plans.
